New York on the Chopping Block

“How Will the Deep Slices, Cuts and Slashes Affect Long Islanders?”

Based on projected growth, New York faces a $10 billion deficit!  As a result, Gov. Cuomo proposed slashing spending by 3.7 billion dollars which includes, but is not limited to:

  • layoffs of up to 9,800 state employees
  • 1.5 billion dollars less state aid to schools
  • 1 billion dollar cut in Medicaid spending and
  • 100 million dollar cut in aid for SUNY colleges. 

What do these and other budget cuts mean to Long Islanders?  Are we being treated fairly and equally?  Why would our children want to stay here?
